Hello, I’m Ben Eli, founder of Como Um Nativo. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of guiding many students who began their journey with absolutely no knowledge of European Portuguese — and discovered that they were capable of far more than they had ever imagined. The truth is, I have never seen myself as just another language teacher. I have always been curious to understand what truly lies behind the language: why things work the way they do, and how even the most complex subjects can be made clear, accessible, logical, and genuinely enjoyable. Out of that curiosity, and out of that love, I developed the Gradual Sequence Method — an approach that connects each stage to the next, building deep understanding and genuine confidence. I don’t teach isolated topics. I build a system. No half-answers. No “just memorize it.” No “that’s just how it is.” I believe every student deserves to understand. To truly understand. Because understanding creates confidence. And with confidence, students begin to enjoy the language, use it, and feel that it is truly becoming part of who they are. That is why I founded Como Um Nativo: to offer a different way to learn European Portuguese — a structured, thorough, human, and clear approach that respects the student’s intelligence and enables them to go far beyond what they thought possible.
